Green Schools Committee
Congratulations to Conor McCarthy, Oisín Galvin, Emma Ryan, Victoria McCarthy and Keelyn McCarthy on being nominated for our Green School Committee. The theme this year is Water, so our committee will be busy exploring ways to reduce our water usage in the school. They will also conduct reviews of our previous committee's efforts on energy and waste.
Míle buíochas to Áine for delivering an SEAI Energy Workshop to all pupils in the school. Guzzler the puppet who likes to waste energy paid a visit to pupils in the Junior Classroom and pupils in the Senior Classroom and Autism Class had opportunities to explore and discuss sustainable energy through energy experiments and playing energy games.
Crann - Trees for Ireland
Active, experimental and fun learning workshop with Ellie in Ballycar N.S. which included a demonstration lesson in tree planting, teaching some gardening and woodland skills, lessons in ecoliteracy. biodiversity awareness and planet care. Green Flag Committee members also greatly benefitted from mentoring received on the day from Ellie. Each class planted their own tree to nurture, protect and observe as the years go by. Cherry Blossom Class pupils planted a holly tree, Junior classroom pupils planted an oak tree and Senior classroom pupils planted a hazel tree which showed pupils how valuable the trees are to themselves and the wonders of the natural world. Hoping all pupils leaving Ballycar N.S in the years ahead will take an acorn from the Ballycar N.S oak tree to plant wherever they put down roots.
